Acne Scarring

Condition Overview

Acne scars are usually the result of inflamed blemishes caused by skin pores engorged with excess oil, dead skin cells and bacteria. The pore swells, causing a break in the follicle wall. Shallow lesions are usually minor and heal quickly. The skin attempts to repair these lesions by forming new collagen fibres. Acne scars can be extremely distressing and effect self confidence.

There are 3 main types of scarring:

  • Atrophic scars –These are often seen as shallow depressions or small holes in the skin (ice-pick scars).
  • Hypertrophic / Keloid scars – whereby excessive scar tissue is formed.
  • Pigmented scars – more common amongst darker phototypes.

FAQ

Providing you maintain your results by continuing your skincare regime and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you should see continued effects from your treatment. Every individual heals differently however and results can vary from person to person.

Rejuvapen – Rejuvapen treatment disrupts scar tissue and allows healthy tissue to grow in its place. This treatment is highly effective for depressed scarring.

Laser – laser light breaks down the scar tissue and stimulates new, healthy tissue to form in its place. Quick and easy, it’s a straightforward procedure and you shouldn’t need any recovery time afterwards.

Skin Peels – Mild peeling agents can be used to lighten areas of pigmentation and treat mild scarring. The Nu-Derm® system by Obagi is an ideal skincare treatment for the correction – and prevention – of signs of ageing, such as lines and wrinkles, sun damage, such as age spots or hyperpigmentation, and acne.
